How to retrieve sandbox organizations in Zoho CRM

List all sandbox environments for your account.

Sandbox organizations in Zoho CRM are isolated testing environments that mirror your production setup, allowing you to safely experiment with configurations, integrations, and customizations before deploying changes to your live system. This article explains how to access and work with these sandboxes.

Why this matters

As your organization grows, the complexity of your sales processes increases, and even small errors can cascade into significant problems. Sandbox environments let you validate real-time business scenarios, test integrations with Finance, Creator, Forms, Analytics, and other Zoho services, and rebuild configurations without risking your production data. CRM admins can create multiple sandboxes to test different setups independently, making it essential to know how to retrieve and manage them.[^1,2]

Step-by-step

Step 1. Access the Sandbox section in CRM administration.

Log in to your Zoho CRM account as an administrator. Navigate to your account settings or administration panel and locate the Sandbox management area. This is where all sandbox organizations associated with your account are listed and managed.[1]

Step 2. Review available sandbox types.

When you created your sandboxes, you selected from four sandbox types, each with different purposes and storage limits. Understanding which type you created helps you identify the right sandbox for your testing needs. For example, a Configuration sandbox includes only your setup without data, while other types may include replicated production data.[^1,2]

Step 3. Verify sandbox synchronization with production.

Before retrieving and using a sandbox, confirm that its setup is in sync with your production environment. If your Sandbox setup is not aligned with Production, any testing you conduct will not be relevant when you deploy configurations back to production. If needed, you can rebuild (formerly called refresh) your sandbox to resync it.[2]

Step 4. Check integration availability in your sandbox.

Depending on your edition and data center, various integrations may be available in your sandbox. Zoho CRM supports Finance Suite integration, Creator integration, Forms integration, Analytics integration, Webinars integration, Desk integration, Social integration, and Survey integration in sandbox environments. Verify which integrations are enabled for your sandbox so you can test them appropriately.[^1,2,3]

Step 5. Deploy tested configurations to production.

Once you have validated your changes, blueprints, automations, and customizations in the sandbox, you can deploy them to production without impacting your original data. The sandbox mimics your production environment closely enough that successful testing translates to safe production deployment.[2]

Common pitfalls

  • Sandbox and production falling out of sync: If you make changes in production after creating your sandbox, the two environments may diverge. Always rebuild your sandbox before conducting critical testing to ensure alignment.
  • Overlooking integration phase-outs: Some integrations like Webinars and Desk are being rolled out in phases across data centers. Check your specific data center and edition to confirm feature availability before planning your tests.[2]
  • Assuming all configurations will work identically: While sandbox closely mirrors production, always validate end-to-end workflows, including third-party integrations and custom logic, before deploying to live users.

What to check

  • Confirm that your sandbox type matches your testing objectives (Configuration, Developer, Full, or Partial).
  • Verify that all integrations you plan to test are available in your sandbox and enabled for your edition and data center.
  • Ensure your sandbox setup is synchronized with your current production configuration before beginning validation tests.
