How to delete a pipeline in Zoho CRM

Remove a sales pipeline from your Zoho CRM module permanently.

Deleting a pipeline in Zoho CRM is managed through the Setup menu, where administrators can edit or remove pipelines and their associated stages. The steps below walk you through the process from start to finish.

Why this matters

Sales teams often create multiple pipelines during initial configuration, only to find some become redundant as processes evolve. Removing unused pipelines keeps your Zoho CRM workspace clean, prevents reps from selecting the wrong pipeline on deals, and ensures your reporting reflects only active sales processes. If you have been struggling with editing fields or removing stages, you are not alone — this is a common configuration task that trips up many admins. [1]

Step-by-step

Step 1. Log in to Zoho CRM as an administrator. Only users with administrative privileges can modify pipeline configuration, so confirm your role before proceeding.

Step 2. Navigate to the Setup area. You can access this by clicking the gear icon (⚙️) in the top-right corner of your Zoho CRM interface. This is the central hub for all configuration changes, including pipeline management. [1]

Step 3. Within Setup, locate the Pipelines section. This is typically found under the Deals or Modules and Fields area, depending on your CRM edition and configuration. Look for a menu item labelled Pipelines or Deal Pipelines.

Step 4. You will see a list of all pipelines currently configured in your account. Identify the pipeline you want to remove. Before deleting, consider whether any open deals are currently assigned to this pipeline — reassigning them first is strongly recommended to avoid data loss.

Step 5. Click on the pipeline you wish to delete to open its settings. Here you can also review and manage the individual stages attached to it. If you need to remove specific stages before deleting the whole pipeline, use the delete or remove option next to each stage within this view. [1]

Step 6. To delete the entire pipeline, look for a Delete option — this is usually represented by a trash icon or a contextual menu (three dots / kebab menu) next to the pipeline name in the list view. Click it and confirm the deletion when prompted.

Step 7. If the system prevents deletion (for example, because active deals are linked to the pipeline), you will need to move those deals to a different pipeline first. Return to your Deals module, filter by the pipeline in question, and bulk-update the pipeline field to an alternative before retrying the deletion.

Common pitfalls

  • Active deals blocking deletion. Zoho CRM will typically prevent you from removing a pipeline that still has deals associated with it. Always audit and migrate open records before attempting to delete. [1]

  • Stage edits vs. pipeline deletion. Some admins confuse editing or deleting individual *stages* with deleting the entire *pipeline*. Stage management is done inside the pipeline's settings screen, while pipeline deletion is performed from the pipeline list view. These are two separate actions in the Setup menu. [1]

  • Insufficient permissions. If you do not see the delete option at all, your user profile may not have the required administrative permissions. Ask your CRM super-admin to either perform the deletion or elevate your access level.

  • Programmatic deletion via API. If your organisation manages CRM configuration through automation or custom integrations, a delete_pipeline tool is available for developers building on the Zoho CRM platform. This is an advanced option and should only be used by teams comfortable with API-level changes. [2]

What to check

  • Confirm no open deals remain on the deleted pipeline — run a Deals report filtered by pipeline name immediately after deletion to verify zero records are orphaned.
  • Verify the pipeline no longer appears in the Deals module — create a test deal and check that the deleted pipeline is absent from the pipeline dropdown.
  • Review any workflow rules or blueprints that referenced the deleted pipeline's stages, as these may now be broken and will need to be updated or deactivated in Setup.
