Removing a custom field from a Zoho CRM module takes just a few clicks — locate the field header, open its dropdown menu, and confirm the deletion to permanently remove it from your layout.
Why this matters
As your CRM evolves, outdated or redundant fields clutter layouts and confuse your team. Deleting unused fields keeps modules clean and reduces data-entry errors. It is also important to understand the downstream effects — particularly if that field is used in sync criteria with other Zoho products like Zoho Campaigns. This guide is provided by Beam Help — independent expert support for Zoho, and is not official Zoho support.
Step-by-step
Step 1. Navigate to the module (for example, Contacts or Leads) where the field you want to remove is located. Open the relevant record view or the field settings area so the field headers are visible. [1]
Step 2. Locate the specific field you wish to delete. Click the down arrow button that appears next to that field's header to open its context menu. [1]
Step 3. From the dropdown list that appears, select Delete. Zoho CRM will immediately display a confirmation message reading "Field Deleted" to confirm the action was successful. [1]
That's the complete process. The field is now permanently removed from the module.

Common pitfalls
Sync criteria may break. If you have an active Zoho Campaigns sync that uses the deleted field as part of its criteria, any contacts matched by that criteria will stop syncing. For example, if your sync rule is "Company isn't NULL" and you delete the Company field from a contact record, that contact will no longer be included in the sync — and future updates to that contact will not flow through to Campaigns. [6]
Field mapping in periodic syncs. If the deleted field was mapped in a periodic sync between Zoho CRM and Zoho Campaigns, that mapping will be broken. You would need to revisit your sync configuration and update the field mapping accordingly to avoid gaps in your data flow. [6]
Hiding vs. deleting. If you are unsure whether you need the field permanently gone, consider hiding it instead. You can hide a field by clicking the down arrow on the field header and selecting Hide, which removes it from view without destroying any stored data. Hidden fields can be restored at any time via the Fields panel in the toolbar, using the toggle switch to show or hide individual fields. [3]
Deletion is permanent. Unlike hiding, deleting a field removes it and all data stored within it. There is no built-in undo for a deleted field — the confirmation message appears only after the action is already complete. [1]

What to check
- Verify the field is gone by refreshing the module layout and confirming the field no longer appears in any record view or list view.
- Review active syncs — if Zoho Campaigns or another integrated tool referenced this field in sync criteria or field mapping, open those sync settings and update or remove the broken mapping to prevent silent sync failures. [6]
- Audit reports and workflows — check whether any saved reports, automation rules, or workflow conditions referenced the deleted field, and update them to avoid errors or broken automations.
